Trump’s First Day: What His Policies Mean for America’s Future Children
Jan 21, 2025By Aja McNair
Yesterday marked a significant day in American history as Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States. This event has sparked conversations and debates across the country and provided a glimpse into the future direction of our nation's policies. In this post, I will delve into some of Trump's actions on his very first day in office, explore their implications, and reflect on our responsibilities moving forward.
Unconventional Inauguration Ceremony
The inauguration was filled with notable moments, one of which was President Trump's departure from tradition during his oath of office. Contrary to the norm, he did not place his hand on the Bible, despite two Bibles being present and his wife standing beside him. While this might not surprise some, it undoubtedly challenges conventions. However, it's important to note that the U.S. Constitution does not mandate the use of the Bible for the oath. Personally, as a God-fearing Christian woman, this moment raised questions for me about his claim to Christianity and adherence to the word of God.
First Day Actions and Policy Shifts
Immediately after taking office, President Trump signed a series of executive orders targeting key issues. Significant policies introduced included threats of tariffs on imports from China, Canada, and Mexico, a national emergency declaration at the U.S.–Mexico border to curb immigration, and plans to restrict birthright citizenship. In the realm of energy and environment, Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord and lifted government censorship related to climate change discussions. Healthcare was also in the spotlight as Trump initiated steps to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, aiming to reshape the nation's healthcare system. In a controversial move, he pardoned individuals involved in the January 6th Capitol events and signed an order defining government recognition of only two genders. These decisions signal a sharp departure from previous administration policies, setting the tone for Trump's tenure. While the Department of Education was not directly addressed in these orders, the implications for future generations remain significant.
Our Role in Shaping the Future
Amidst these changes, one might wonder what lies ahead. Regardless of evolving political landscapes, our responsibility remains steadfast. We must lead by example, instilling values such as integrity, compassion, and resilience in our children. Education is pivotal in equipping the next generation with knowledge and critical thinking skills to navigate an ever-changing world. Building a strong spiritual foundation is equally important—reminding our children that above all else, Jesus Christ is Lord and is in control. By focusing on guidance, education, and faith, we can prepare our youth for whatever challenges they may face.
